- Description: COTTON PIECE GOODS (White and Khaki Drills, etc.) - Care should be exercised in attributing the cause of water staining to contact with seawater, as an analysis of undamaged material may produce the same result, for the reason that salt is sometimes used in the dressing and/or filling used to bring the cloth up to a specified weight. However, testing of samples by a competent chemist should be able to differentiate between presence of salt and sea water exposure, which will leave trace elements.
