Description: A blackish-brown sand of a hard abrasive nature used for a variety of industrial metallurgical purposes. Also used in the preparation of certain fluxes and alloys and for coating welding rods. Moisture does not alter the material or cake it, but if it becomes too wet a claim for drying might be expected from some consumers. Logs usually arise from bad handling, such as dropping bags from a sling, or from the use of stevedores' hooks. Any sweepings that may be recovered from holds might be contaminated with dust and dirt. Claims do not usually arise unless such contamination is excessive. On the other hand, contamination with sugar, syrup, similar solubles, or with oil, is likely to make the material unusable.
