COTTONSEED CAKE

Description: Bulk shipments in cake form are subject to loss of weight during shipment and discharge owing to the cake breaking and powdering. Serious damage to cargo can be caused by dampness or sweating of the ship's holds, due to improper ventilation. Moisture so arising causes the cake to mold, which formation spreads rapidly. This condition can usually be detected by the strong, sour odor. Bags are very often stained by their own contents. Also liable to spontaneous combustion if wetted. Also subject to a natural loss in weight. See also IMDG Code.
