- Description:
Electrolyte copper cathodes are usually bought upon a weight basis. It is quite common for these cathodes to have surface deformities arising out of the process of manufacture, in the nature of small "pimples or warts," and since the cathodes are normally shipped unpacked, often bound together with metal bands, handling in the course of transit will result in the surface irregularities being broken down and the cathodes delivered with a smooth surface. This, on occasion, may well result in quite a serious difference between the shipped and delivered weights. Further, the cathodes are manufactured with "ears" for the purpose of hanging and frequently these "ears" become knocked off during transit, resulting in a further loss of weight.
