- Description:
Many citronella oil shipments go forward in second-hand lubricating oil drums which cannot be properly cleaned prior to filling. In consequence, the citronella oil becomes slightly contaminated by the lubricant originally in the drum. The practice is to fill such drums with citronella oil and after allowing the oil to stand for a length of time the particles of dirt and lubricant, which had previously adhered to the sides of the drum, sink to the bottom the container; the major portion is then removed by suction. A small portion, however, is bound to remain, but is accepted by the trade, as the percentage is fractional and easily removed by the consignee with the help of filters.
