Very often constructional defects are found in the enamel in the form of light cracks which are not necessarily proof of damage from external cause; can be due to defective firing.
Sometimes nested in the crates with corrugated or mottled cardboard manufactured by the sulphite process between. If exposed to moisture, the sulphite is released and has a bleaching effect cannot be eradicated. The pattern disappears when the bath is wet and reappears as it dries. See also ENAMEL WARE.
