- Description:
A white crystalline compound made up of sulphate of potash, sulphate of alumina and water. Used for various purposes, including dyeing, tanning, printing, etc. Carries a large percentage of water of crystallization, part of which may be lost through rise in temperature and drop in humidity. The effect of this is a powder formation on the crystals, and occasionally a complete breakdown of the crystals to a fine powder. There is, however, no fundamental chemical change. May be subject to a natural loss in weight due to loss of moisture.
