Association of Average Adjusters of the United States The Association of Average Adjusters of the United States and Canada, incorporated in 2011, traces its roots to the formation of the Association of Average Adjusters of the United States in 1879 and the Association of Average Adjusters of Canada in 1967. Its purpose is to maintain the honor and dignity of the profession of Average Adjusting, and to promote correct principles in the adjustment of marine hull claims and uniformity of practice among Average Adjusters. The Association's membership includes practicing Average Adjusters, Maritime Lawyers and members of the Judiciary, Vessel Owners, Marine Underwriters and Brokers, and other maritime professionals from around the world. |

The Association of Marine Underwriters of San Francisco was established in 1885, in order to promote harmony, fellowship and professionalism in the Ocean Marine insurance industry, the discussion of topics of interest to the profession, and consideration of subjects as may be brought before The Association. The Association offers marine oriented classes throughout the year in a variety of subjects germane to the ocean marine insurance industry. |
Board of Marine Underwriters of San Francisco (BMUSF)
In Board of Marine Underwriters of San Francisco was established in 1865. Since 1984 BMUSF is affiliated with the American Institute of Marine Underwriters (AIMU). Membership now consists of marine underwriting organizations who maintain underwriting offices or representatives in the Western United States and who are also corporate members of AIMU. The Board also nominates a West Coast representative to each of the AIMU standing committees. Presently the Board primarily maintains an educational role. It sponsors the Biennial Marine Seminar and also holds breakfast meetings, which feature a variety of speakers from the marine community. More recently the Board publishes a newsletter, The Pacific Coast Forum. |

The International Union of Marine Insurance traces its roots to the later part of the 19th century. Matitime Administration (MARAD)
The Maritime Administration is the agency within the U.S. Department of Transportation dealing with waterborne transportation. Its programs promote the use of waterborne transportation and its seamless integration with other segments of the transportation system, and the viability of the U.S. merchant marine. The Maritime Administration also maintains a fleet of cargo ships in reserve to provide surge sealift during war and national emergencies. |

Marine and Insurance Claims Association (MICA)
The organization began in 1944 during World War II when numerous claims for ordinary losses arose resulting in the steamship claims agents closely working with their counterparts on the insurance side to develop a reasonable solution to settle those claims matters. Through all the years, MICA has remained true to its purpose - the creation of an atmosphere in which marine claims can be resolved in a reasonable manner by the parties themselves through the development of trust in each other. Membership in MICA is open to anyone who is interested in marine claims. There are no charges for membership. |
Maritime Law Association (MLA)
The Maritime Law Association of the United States (MLA) was founded in 1899. The objectives of the Association are: to advance reforms in the Maritime Law of the United States; to facilitate justice in its administration; to promote uniformity in its enactment and interpretation; to furnish a forum for the discussion and consideration of problems affecting the Maritime Law and its administration; to participate as a constituent member of the Comité Maritime International and as an affiliated organization of the American Bar Association; and to act with other associations in efforts to bring about a greater harmony in the shipping laws, regulations and practices of different nations. |
