AIMU is into an 7th year of organizing a Volunteer Day with the New York Harbor School on Governors Island helping with the Billion Oyster Project and projects around the school's campus. AIMU team members will gain knowledge and hands-on experiences with oyster restoration, build camaraderie with their team, and enjoy a day of outdoor work and fun activities alongside BOP interns and staff on beautiful Governors Island in the midst of NY harbor.

Date: Thursday, August 25, 2022
Location : Governors Island, NY (ferry departs/returns Battery Maritime Building, 10 South St.)
Number of participants: BOP Volunteer Days accommodate up to 25 people
Wear: Clothes you don't mind getting dirty, closed-toed shoes, and a face mask (required on-board the ferry).
Bring: Reusable water bottle and sunscreen. We encourage participants to bring work gloves if you have them, otherwise they will be provided.
9:15am – arrive at Governors Island ferry terminal
9:30am – ferry to GI
9:45am – walk to project site with welcome remarks & tour on the way
10:15am – explanation of project; project work begins
12:15pm – project work ends; clean-up site
12:30pm – packed lunch provided by AIMU
1:30pm – tour
2:30pm – happy hour at Island Oyster
4:30pm – ferry to Manhattan*
*Governors Island ferries run every 30 minutes, guests are welcome to stay on the Island and take a later ferry back
Each attendee needs to complete the online registration form at Billion Oyster Project Volunteer Day Sign-up
Cancellations: Full refunds will be given if cancellations received 72 hours prior to the event. After that window, any fees already paid will be applied towards a donation to the New York Harbor School.
