AIMU is into a 7th year of organizing a Volunteer Day with the New York Harbor School on Governors Island helping with the Billion Oyster Project and projects around the school's campus. AIMU team members will gain knowledge and hands-on experiences with oyster restoration, build camaraderie with their team, and enjoy a day of outdoor work and fun activities alongside BOP interns and staff on beautiful Governors Island in the midst of NY harbor.
Number of participants: 25 people
What to bring: water bottle, weather-appropriate outdoor clothing that you don't mind getting dirty, hat, camera, snacks, etc.
What BOP provides: technical overview and tour; hand-on restoration activities
9:15 am AIMU team meets at Battery Maritime Building (10 South Street)
9:30 am Ferry departs for Governors Island
9:45 am AIMU team is greeted by BOP team at Soissons Landing
10:00 am Overview of the Day; AIMU team broken into project work groups
12:30 pm Lunch at project sites
1:15 pm Project work continues
3:00 pm Project work concludes
3:30 pm Drinks and bites at Island Oyster
4:45 pm Board ferry -- ferry departs at 5pm
