Details: A startlingly original story of risk, money, & power in the founding era! Join us for a very relevant presentation to learn how American maritime insurers used their position at the pinnacle of global trade to shape the new nation. The international information they gathered and the capital they generated enabled them to play central roles in state building and economic development. During the Revolution, they helped the U.S. negotiate foreign loans, sell state debts, and establish a single national bank. By the early nineteenth century, insurers were no longer just risk assessors. They were nation builders and market makers. Author presentation to be followed by live Q&A. About the author:Hannah Farber, an assistant professor of history at Columbia University, and author of the new book, Underwriters of the United States, will discuss the role of the transnational system of marine insurance in shaping the founding of the United States. Her book relates how during the Revolutionary War, marine insurers helped the new country negotiate foreign loans, sell state debts, and establish a national bank and how they increased their influence after the war by lending money to the federal government and its citizens.

  Duration: minimum 60-minutes
  The content consists of 74-slides in a narrated course. The session is segmented into five sections with "check points" to test your knowledge throughout and a final assessment. Upon completion of both modules and achievement of a 70% or better on the final assessment, please follow instructions to receive a "Successful Course Completion Certificate".

Self-paced training consisting of one module  (Short Preview »)

Duration: minimum 45 minutes - self paced training developed with the cooperation of the AIMU Hull and Education Committees. 

 The content consists of 90-slides in a narrated course.

 The session is segmented into six sections subtitled:

1. Introduction
2. AIHC Part I
3. AIHC Part II
4. Other Hull Forms
5. Additional Hull Coverage
6. Final Assessment

Material covered includes Lay-up Return, General Average and Salvage, Sistership Clause, Taylor Hull Form, War Risks and Strikes Clause, Increased Value and Loss of Hire.  Testing is included in the training to reinforce the content.

This training is recommended for underwriters, risk managers, agents, brokers, claims representatives and other insurance professionals interested in understanding the Institute Hull form.
