Join us on August 15, 2019 for the AIMU Field Trip to the Brooklyn Navy Yard. We will meet at Wall Street/Pier 11 Landing and travel aboard a NYC ferry to the Brooklyn Navy Yard. Our group will be greeted by tour guide Andrew Gustafson We are also fortunate to be joined by John Walker, Braemar Marine as well as Brooklyn Navy Yard staff to board an air-conditioned bus as there is much to see at this 300-acre site. The group will hop on and off the bus at various sites for a closer look and behind the scenes tour of inner workings of the Navy Yard. AIMU has tailored a tour of all three graving docks, the NYC EDC new ferry service & maintenance facility as well as to see some ships in dock. Attendees will be provided lunch (cost included in registration fee).
Depart at 9:30am - by ferry at Pier 11 at the end of Wall Street, New York City
Return at 3:30pm - by ferry to Pier 11
Fee: $75 per person for members/$150 for non-members.
(includes NYC Ferry tickets to and from Brooklyn, tour guide, bus on premises and lunch)
Dress Code: Comfortable and casual clothing, closed toe, footwear good for walking.
More details: This tour will explore the 300-acre property along Brooklyn’s industrial waterfront. See historical photographs and learn about the history and innovation of the Navy Yard, from the Revolutionary War to today. Take a closer look at its most intriguing sites - like a dry dock that’s been used for ship repair since 1851 and the Green Manufacturing Center, a future hub for the development of new products and technologies. Learn about New York’s naval and maritime history. Visit a 19th-century dry dock that's still used today for ship repair Check out the country’s first multi-story ‘green’ industrial building and first wind- and solar-powered street lamps. The focus will be on maritime insurance but will also broadly share the history of Brooklyn Navy Yard.
